In 1962 interested men from the Churches of Christ began talking about opening a Christian home for children who needed
a home away from home. Dreams came true, Midwest Christian Children's Home was established and is located SW of
Perterson, Iowa, in the old Brooke Township School. Facilities have grown and include a 200 acre farm.
Midwest Christian Services' Timeline
1962 The Brooke School property was purchased.
1963 The first four children arrived at Midwest Christian Children's Home. Origninally, MCS was a children's
home for children who had no place to go.
1973 MCS had grown to having three units with each having house parents. Also in 1973 the 200 acre farm was
purchased (thanks to a down payment donation), the boys and girls have raised hogs, chickens, cattle
and sheep over the years.
1980 The addition to the White House was built (thanks to a fund raiser by the Eagles Auxiliary).
1992 The Brick House Cottage was built and dedicated (thanks to a single anonymous donation).
1994 The name was changed to Midwest Christian Services.
1995 A tornado hit MCS and destroyed the old school (MCS offices), but left the homes and gym fully intact and
without any injuries to anyone.
1997 The new office building was completed and MCS went to an all boy's facility.
Today, Midwest Christian Services is a residential treatment facility for boys 8-18, led by a dedicated group of
volunteer Board of Directors. Two of these Board Members, Beryl Hicks and Bob Barnes have been on the board
since day one. The boys that MCS serves are here because they are demonstrating emotional and/or behavioral
problems, that are not manageable in the home or in a less restrictive environment. The average stay for boys
at MCS is 9-18 months. Our services include:
A. Individual Therapy
B. Group Therapy
C. Family Therapy
D. Vocational Services
E. Case Management/Treatment Planning
F. Recreational Facilities
G. Church/Sunday School (optional)
H. Weekly Church Youth Group (optional)
I. Cultural Diversity Group (optional)
We invite you to become a part of our future!
